Phenom 100 VLJ Flies

The Embraer Phenom 100 Very Light Jet (VLJ) flew for the first time on July 26 at the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer´s São José dos Campos. facility. Aircraft number 99801 (PP-XPH) took off at 10:55 a.m. and flew for 1 hour and 36 minutes, performing maneuvers to explore the aircraft´s flight characteristics and verify systems operations. "All maneuvers and tests were performed as planned," said test pilot Antonio Braganca Silva.

The flight test program is proceeding with the goal of obtaining Brazilian and FAA certification so that the four-passenger jet can enter service in mid-2008. EASA certification is anticipated in early 2009. The Phenom 100, powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW617F engines rated at 1,615 pounds-thrust each, was announced in May 2005. Metal was cut in May 2006 using a digital mock-up of the aircraft developed with CATIA engineering software. The airplane was assembled at the Embraer´s main facility in S?o Jos? dos Campos. The new VLJ rolled out on June 16.

Range with four occupants is expected to be 1,160 nm with NBAA IFR reserves. The aircraft is designed to be capable of cruising at 41,000 feet at a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.70. Price of the VLJ is $2.98 million (January 2005 U.S. dollars)
